Gromovskoye old believe cemetery.
At first I’ve planned to call this album “Mitrophanievskoye cemetery”, but later I received a specification: in spite of the fact that Mitrophanievskoye was very near, there’s almost nothing left from it. But I didn’t change the text. Let's consider it as historical digression J
Mitrophanievskoye cemetery appeared here in 1831, when almost 5 thousand people had died of a cholera (the imperial courtyard has moved to Tsarskoye Selo at that period). To not distribute an infection, the buries have been made outside of city limits – then there was a Tentelevka village. The cemetery got its name – Mitrophanievskoye – from the wooden church, that stood here once, long ago.
There’re some famous people buried here: rear admiral V.Rykov, general P.Liprandi, senator P.Sumarokov, pianist M.Shimanovskaya, writer M.Pyliyaev, poet L.Mey, writer I.Lazhechnikov.
The cemetery was officially closed in 1927. Originally it’s territory was about 50 hectares.
